Today, we work alongside individuals to create opportunities for learning, independence, creativity, connection, personal development and meaningful participation in community life. We draw on the skills of our team and strong relationships across our community to make those opportunities meaningful and responsive.
Our approach starts with the individual — their strengths, interests, choices and aspirations — and a belief that good support should evolve as lives evolve.
Our Story
Since 1976, Cumas has been part of the New Ross community, creating opportunities for people with disabilities to learn, grow, connect, contribute and live with greater independence and choice.
Since the beginning, Cumas has never stood still. Over five decades, we have continued to grow, adapt and try new things, creating opportunities to learn, work, develop, connect, stay healthy and well, build friendships, have fun and play an active part in community life. As lives and aspirations change, we believe the opportunities around them should evolve too.
Much has changed since 1976, but our commitment to the individual has remained constant. We believe in recognising strengths, respecting choices and aspirations, and providing high-quality support that evolves as lives evolve.
Our story has also been shaped by the people who have contributed to Cumas over the past 50 years the individuals we support, generations of staff and volunteers, families and supporters, community partners and the wider New Ross community. Together, they form an important part of our history and the organisation Cumas has become today.
